Job Description
About our group:

The media tester equipment team at Seagate Fremont Research Center is designing and upgrading media testers for media production factory, drive assembly factories.

About the role - you will:

  • Develop System Level Architectures
  • Develop Board and system level high speed digital circuit design, integration, and evaluation.
  • Perform high speed circuit simulation (HSPICE, Hyperlinx, ADS, HFSS etc) and be responsible for board design and functionality.
  • Generate PCB layout guidelines and work with outside PCB layout service providers. Knowledge in high speed (> 10Gbps) layout is required.
  • Perform board bring up and work with cross-functional team
  • Develop system and board level tests and test procedures to ensure that the product meets electrical and engineering specifications. Use these procedures to transfer products to Operations.
  • Work with mechanical engineer to design product enclosure and cross check with electrical designs.
  • Assist in EMC certification as necessary
  • Support Manufacturing and Customer Support on various issues.
  • Responsible for firmware design for CPLD and FGPA in design.
  • Program FPGAs and microcontrollers to collect/organize data from various ICs/sensors via serial and parallel communication protocols (SPI, I2C, USB, PCIe) and disseminate that data in a multitude of serial outputs such as USB, UART, NRZL.
  • Perform functional verification, timing closure, clock domain crossing (CDC) and constraint generation for FPGAs using ModelSim and Xilinx Vivado EDA design tools

Your experience includes:

  • Strong high speed board design experience (>10Gbps)
  • Experience in schematics design, Layout design using OrCAD capture/Mentor graphics
  • Strong experience with HW debugging Lab tools such as Oscilloscope, VNA, etc.
  • Experience with Verilog, System Verilog based firmware development using Xilinx Vivado tool
  • Experience with Firmware development using Visual studio
  • Proficient with C/C++, Python, TCL and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with FPGA and microprocessor development, including hardware descriptor languages (i.e. Verilog, VHDL)
  • Experienced with programming of FPGAs and microcontrollers to collect/organize data from various ICs/sensors via serial and parallel communication protocols. (SPI, I2C, USB, PCIe) and disseminate that data in a multitude of serial outputs such as USB, UART, NRZL.

  • Experienced with system and sub-system level electrical design of analog, digital, ADC, DAC, memory, imaging devices, power and motion control electronics.
  • Experienced with verification of designs by implementing testbenches to generate simulation and advanced verification techniques like UVM and constrained test insertion environments.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years' experience, or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years' experience, or PhD and 3+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
