About our group:

Seagate Research Group is seeking a motivated biochemistry intern who will develop procedures for chemically modifying surfaces for biosensing applications such as sequencing, and DNA nucleotide manipulation for storage applications. The position is based at Seagate's R&D site in Shakopee, MN, with wet lab work taking place in our laboratory near the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.

About the role - you will:
  • Review primary literature to gain knowledge of appropriate chemical surface modification and bioconjugation techniques.
  • Select appropriate chemical methods to implement in Seagate's biochemistry/biosensing applications.
  • Develop experimental protocols for applying selected chemical modifications to desired surfaces. Create models to predict resulting properties of the modified surfaces, such as chemical group density, hydrophobicity, etc.
  • Execute developed protocols in the lab to create modified surfaces for Seagate's biochemistry/biosensing applications.
About you:
  • Student pursuing an MS or PhD degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Executing written protocols in a laboratory setting, particularly in a biochemical laboratory.
  • Familiarity with concepts and methods in bioconjugation.
  • Familiarity with methods for the chemical modification of surfaces.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.
  • Self-motivated, independent and a team player with strong communication skills
  • Attentive to detail and proactive
Location:

Our Shakopee campus is located 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis in a setting with a rural vibe - it overlooks a horse racing track and stables, yet it has great entertainment venues close by as well.
