Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

If you are a cloud data engineer that loves designing and building data lake houses to help drive substantive business results, and have 5+ years of experience, then you will be excited about the Senior Cloud Data Engineer opening with Iridium on our Data Management & Analytics team. As a Cloud Data Engineer at Iridium, you'll be an integral part of the team that is modernizing and centralizing our data infrastructure. You will succeed in this role by leveraging your strong database development skills.

What You'll Do:

    Help design and develop scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines and ETL processes using a variety of AWS services (AWS Glue, AWS DataSync, etc.) and third-party data platforms/tools (Snowflake, DBT, etc.) in an Agile development environment
  • Implement data ingestion strategies from various sources, including databases, APIs, and streaming platforms, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, identify data sources, and define data models to support business analytics and reporting needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data pipelines, ensuring the stability and availability of data for all stakeholders
  • Implement data security and compliance measures to protect sensitive information and adhere to data governance policies
  • Monitor and maintain the overall health of the data infrastructure, proactively identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks or inefficiencies
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and SQL for data engineering tasks
  • Experience with Cloud Data Platforms and tools such as Snowflake and DBT
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and a strong understanding of data modeling, data integration/architecture, ETL principles and data governance
  • Experience working with DevOps tools such as GitLab
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
  • Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others
  • Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
  • Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Background in data engineering, cloud technologies, and experience working with large-scale data warehouses/data lakes/lake houses
  • Hands on experience with AWS Cloud data tools and/or Cloud database platform tools
  • Data Analytics and Business Intelligence experience with tools such as Tableau and PowerBI
  • AWS, Snowflake or related certifications

We'll also need you to:

  • US Citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
