Description
Reports to the Chair, Quality Management. Receives instruction from Chair, Division of Quality Management, and as assigned, Legal Counsel, to handle potential/actual claims and related activities including the performance of record reviews and staff investigations. Works cooperatively with physicians, administration, and allied health staff. Interacts professionally with patient and family. Assists with the Occurrence Reporting Program. Serves as a coordinator for resolution of general liability, auto, property, and theft claims. Interfaces with Patient Administrative Liaisons pertaining to patient complaints and grievances. Responsibility for taking "on" and "off-hours" risk management "call" duties, via pager. Engages in development of ongoing risk management and patient safety education for allied staff, consultant staff and residents.
Department: Quality Management Services
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred or other advanced clinical degree preferred. Professional license or certification in clinical area preferred. A minimum of three to four years of related experience in risk management, patient relations, patient safety and/or quality management in a hospital or healthcare setting is required. Recent experience in an assistant manager or related position with a history of receiving direction from a risk/quality/patient safety manager or legal counsel preferred. Ability to problem-solve patient care issues, perform policy and procedure interpretation and collaborate with various staff members at all levels of the organization. Strong presentation skills are necessary. Claims management experience a plus. Demonstrated energy level, enthusiasm, and work ethic. Outstanding interpersonal skills. Readiness to manage and resolve conflict proactively. Demonstrated documented examples of ability to analyze complex scenarios and propose logical conclusions.
